NOMINATION 2022

“A vital and effervescent work! It shows well how a modern cello concerto can be written with its exciting and challenging solo voice that does not lose itself in virtuosity.”

"He achieves this through writing sensual sonorities which are often so beautiful that they motivate you to stretch your ear into the orchestra and listen to the frequently advanced nuances and variations with which he paints." About the soloist Amalie Stalheim: "She shapes the history of contemporary music by taking the initiative to commission a work such as this - and not least by the way she tackles the music, offering such abundant expressivity throughout that the orchestra always has something to play up to two. The Cadenza (the eighth and final interlude) was superb.”

"My aim was to create a musical style that is open to reflection, yet at the same time, develops logically in the course of the work's 28 minutes. I wish that modern art music will still be a vital part of music life and our society My hope is also that the audience travels through the diverse sound landscapes in Relieff, enjoying the fabulous performance by cello soloist, Amalie, in dialogue with the superb orchestra of my hometown, Bergen.
