Review

"A strong contrast to Halvorsen's traditional tonal language was Knut Vaage's string quartet "Bumerang". Vaage has a versatile and extensive production behind it and is also behind the festival's project with youth opera."

"A strong contrast to Halvorsen's traditional tonal language was Knut Vaage's string quartet 'Bumerang'. Vaage has a versatile and extensive production behind him and is also behind the festival's youth opera project. In 'Bumerang' he explores the possibilities of string instruments. At the center are various forms of tremolo which constantly repeated, very effective. In between, there is different use of the instruments, such as hitting the end of the bow against the strings, sliding squeals, playing on the wrong side of the chair and much more. I did not experience this as speculative, but like an exciting journey into a new sound universe. The young string players impressed with their fearless playing."
