03 Dec World Premiere at the Festival!

NATTFOLKET is an enchanting family opera with music by Knut Vaage and a libretto by Bjørn Sortland – featuring elements from both Mozart and the birds in the forest!
The mayor and the investors want to cut down the old oak forest to build cabins. The youths, Ciril and Noah, take up the fight to save the forest and all who live there.
Nattfolket is a humorous and playful opera that mixes a variety of styles and references, drawing from opera history – such as Mozart's The Magic Flute and Bizet's Carmen – as well as well-known Norwegian children's songs, pop music, contemporary music, and rhythmic antics. The story is both serious and funny at the same time – in short, it is a bird opera that speaks up for nature.
Nattfolket is a co-production between the Bergen International Festival and Bergen National Opera with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Edvard Grieg Choirs, the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera, and Den Nationale Scene.
