28 Sep EXPERIENCE "NATTFOLKET" IN TRONDHEIM
The enchanting family opera will be performed on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October at Rosendal Teater.
The exciting story, suitable for children aged eight and above, is about the struggle over the ancient oak forest in the village of Indre Kluredal. The plan is to cut down the forest and build holiday cabins. The young people Ciril and Noah take up the fight to save the forest and everyone who lives there. But animals are not the only inhabitants of the forest. The Nattfolket – half bird, half human-like creatures – also live there, in a kind of magical universe. Everyone in Nattfolket loves to sing and imitate sounds.
They are shy and have a fondness for things from days gone by. Few people know they exist.
The only weapon the Nattfolket have is a witch who can take away people’s singing voices, making life miserable for the humans. And then there are Noah and Ciril, who seek help from none other than the Queen herself in the capital.
The opera blends a wide range of styles and references from the history of opera, such as Mozart’s Tryllefløyten and Bizets Carmen – as well as well-known Norwegian children’s songs, pop music, contemporary music and playful rhythmic twists. The story is both serious and humorous – a bird opera that speaks up for nature. The opera is written by Knut Vaage and Bjørn Sortland, who are also behind the series... *The Art Detectives* and Mission– the series about secret agent Johnny 777.
On stage is a strong cast from Trøndelag, featuring performers including Eldrid Gorset, Maia Reppe and Håvard Stensvold.
The opera is a national collaboration between Bergen National Opera, the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera.
In September the opera Nattfolket was nominated for the Norwegian Critics’ Association’s annual award honouring outstanding artistic achievements, as selected by Norway’s community of critics.
